Respiratory Disease Claims

A surprisingly high number of people suffer as a result of respiratory illness and disease which they have obtained whilst in the workplace. The most common method is by exposure to dangerous or hazardous substances and by far the largest group of Claimants were involved with coal mining and in particular underground coal mining activities. If a Claimant can prove that he or she has been exposed to a dangerous substance and that that exposure has caused them some form of respiratory illness then they may be entitled to make a claim for compensation based upon the fact their employers at the time should have ensured that they were fully protected against this exposure.

Types of respiratory disease

  • Asbestos
  • Asthma
  • Bronchitis
  • Emphysema
  • Cancer
  • Pleural plaques
  • Pneumonocosis
  • Silicosis

The main industries where substantial numbers of workers have been left with severe respiratory diseases tend to be in the older industries such as coal mining and now asbestos. However, it is not uncommon for a number of types of industry to use hazardous chemicals and substances which can cause respiratory problems if inhaled. Symptoms can range from mild bronchitis to life threatening cancers and as such every individual suffers in a different way. It is therefore vital that medical advice is sought immediately prior to seeking legal advice.

Our panel of solicitors are experienced in dealing with all types of respiratory illness and will be able to advise you accordingly. Simply complete the Claim Assessment Form under the Industrial Disease section and one of our specialist claims solicitors will contact you in order to take instructions as to the type of illness that you have and the route causes. Generally, the cause has been the lack of safety equipment and protective clothing provided by your employer.

Our panel of injury solicitors will work on a strictly no win, no fee basis and as such the legal assessment of your claim will be a free assessment. You will receive 100% of any damages awarded.
